            ATLAS GROUP, 2022

'IN HER MUMS CLOTHES' (FINAL PERFORMANCE)

and group documentation

During the month of July to August 2022 I have been part of the Atlas group in Impulstanz, where I had the privilege to attend workshops and to watch several performances happening during that month all over Vienna. I had the opportunity to analyse, participate, work with new styles of movement and question further that is dance. We had the opportunity as well to test our ideas of a concept/story to an audience at the end, where a studio was offered to us in the process to put together a 10min performance. My story titled 'In Her Mums Clothes' was about the conflicts between mother and daughters. The interviews in relation to the subject has been done in Malta before I left for training with Atlas. The anonymous families which sat down with me and had discussed further their conflicts, has given me the consent to than use some of the information as embodiment during the performances. The performance took place around a table since it is the sacred place traditionally families gathered and ate and argued. It is the place as well you share stories. Around each chair I have created different movements for the different personalities. And dressed and undressed out of the character. At the end I was left with a pile of clothes everywhere, and myself nude, and in that state I started to confess my own story to my own mother. The clothes everywhere are a reminder of the conversations most mothers have whilst hanging, washing, ironing and chasing their children to put them in order. The main aspect which came out of the interviews has been that the complex relationship usually stems from layers of patriarchal dominance.

Atlas has given me as well the opportunity to collaborate and practice alongside so many great performers who together we celebrated the spirit of togetherness. I have documented some of these moments which have meant a lot for my growth as a performer seeking to know more not just about myself but about others too.
