'Us': A Clubbing Report

a pop up exhibition during Covid 19 era when all the clubs around have been closed. This is historical in my lifetime since I have been born

Presenting the exhilaration, intimacy and beauty of the clubbing scene, at a time when clubs all over Europe are closed. Images which are joyful, and at times very personal, documentation includes 35mm photographs dating from 2012 to 2020, and covers clubbing scenes in Barcelona, Berlin, France, Ibiza, London, Malta, Morocco, the Netherlands, Romania, and Tunisia. ‘Us’ takes a poignant, but celebratory look at the intense and transient closeness that is made possible by a clubbing night out; the chance encounter, the bathroom ritual, and the night’s soundtrack. The physical and emotional intensity created, transcending generational and social constructs, is documented closely, truthfully, and warmly in this two-day exhibition. During this pop up event which took place in an empty old home (the after party feeling vibe), I was looking to bring people back to remember how did clubs feel and to encourage the ritual in the clubbing scene to take over the routine when clubs will be opened once again. The exhibition reminded those who attended the importance not just of the weekend to escape the everyday life but to join once again as a community, being close to the other and the importance of movement away from the mobile screen.
